The first Soma & Psy publication is presented at the Consorci Hospitalari de Vic
The suicide It is a public health problem that affects approximately one million people each year and is the second leading cause of death for people between 15 and 29 years. It is estimated that for each suicide, six people in their environment are directly affected by this event, with all the health and social implications that it entails.
On the occasion of World Day for the Prevention of Suicide, last September 8th The first publication of the Soma & Psy Network “Recommendations to develop an action plan for suicide prevention” was presented at the Consorci Hospitalari de Vic (CHV), Spain. The presentation of the publication has been conducted by the two coordinators of the working group that has developed this action plan: Judit Pons, mental health specialist specialist at CHV, and Raquel Carrera, Quality and Communication Manager at CHV.
For Raquel Carrera "a document like this should help us to improve, join efforts towards zero suicide" and has remarked that "the Vic Hospital Consortium is in many cases in an advanced position in the implementation of suicide prevention programs because a lot has been done since 2012 ”. Along the same lines, Judit Pons has explained that: "We cannot avoid deaths, but we can work to prevent them, and these recommendations can be of great help."
The publication has the main objective of reduce suicide mortality in the territories in which each institution of the Soma & Psy Network works, offer a model that sets the standards of action that provide security to professionals and contribute to better coordination between the different actors involved in suicide prevention.
This action plan has been prepared based on the experiences, knowledge and debate organized online through the Soma & Psy web portal. Professionals from three institutions that are part of the Network have participated: Fondation de Nant, Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu and the Consorci Hospitalari de Vic.
