Use obstacles as challenges to improve

Obstacles can be the steps of the winners towards victory. For example, Demosthenes, the great speaker, had a speech impairment, which he overcame by putting pebbles in his mouth while shouting. Beethoven, one of the world's greatest composers, was deaf. The great poet Milton was blind, Abraham Lincoln was almost completely self-taught throughout his life.

The famous psychologist William James wrote: the deepest principle of human nature is the desire to be appreciated. Praise is the best pay for a job well done. Usually it inspires us to develop our skills a little more. It also improves our mood and as a result we are more productive. That is because a little recognition always encourages us.

The importance of pleasing others

The winners are careful not to lower the ego of another person. Lord Chesterfied gave this magnificent advice to his son when he asked him the following question:

What can I do to please others?

My son, Chesterfied replied, make others feel a little better about themselves and I promise you the following: you will like them very much.

We must also recognize it: we want to please people. And the person who says he doesn't care if he likes others or not, we must at least doubt such a statement. There is always someone we want to please.

Pleasing others is a psychological need that we all (or almost all) have. If not, we could not consider ourselves social beings. We need each other to live, move forward ...

We do a lot for the happiness and success of a person when we express our sincere admiration.

This gesture is especially satisfactory when we praise a specific action or behavior of the person, for example, you look great when you smile!

The importance of recognition

Abraham Maslow, American psychologist, created the theory of self realisation which states that this is a human need of the highest level of people's evolution, and to achieve it, a series of needs must be met before, among which is recognition.

Recognition is something profound: it is to realize, it is to see and thank; It is to make our gratitude visible and thus expand our capacity to build well-being.

Recognizing the qualities of other people, even recognizing ourselves, is favorable for promote good self-esteem in ourselves and others.

We will be happy to sincerely praise those we appreciate.

Suggestions to express appreciation to others

  1. Think of things that are at hand. Very often we look far to see if we find something to praise. This habit makes us not perceive many beautiful experiences and opportunities that we have very close.
  2. Look for simple things to praise. Not necessarily a transcendent experience or a phenomenal discovery. You could propose to find two or three specific things a day to applaud.
  3. Find the right time to express your recognition. These comments will serve as a positive reinforcement for the person to improve their performance.
